We are the ones working in an environment that is not ‘conditioned’ but ‘open air’, in direct contact with nature, with all its many variables.
Within this remark, what is ‘nice’ is that we must build on all of our knowledge, ability and strategy, to obtain every year an excellent product, ever richer, more complete and territorial, to be offered to an increasingly discerning and demanding clientèle.
Very often, in connecting with one another we have been saddened yet praised ourselves, for our ability to succeed, adding every year that extra chapter to our experience.
After a few years in which drought prevailed, we experienced 2008 as an almost perfect vintage, then in a crescendo of water in its various guises, until this odd 2010, with its great battles of spring-summer to counter pathogens (steadfastness and timeliness were the winning strategies) and the ones in autumn to organise and choose the ideal time for harvesting (in addition to steadfastness and timeliness, the courage of waiting was also winning).
It should also be remembered that the vintage 2010, in addition to the abundant rainfall, featured low temperatures, translating into low thermal sums, which although enhancing the aroma of whites, slowed down and weakened the evolution-ripening of skins in black grapes. In synthesis, the ripening process appeared to be unattainable at first, then all in all, in the very right timing of the coolest vintages.
In connection with quantity, the result, notwithstanding pathologies, was medium-good.
In terms of quality the vintage will be remembered as average, as always with excellent peaks, but especially with the generalised and sought after opportunity to characterise wines with certain canons strongly demanded by the market such as lower alcohol content, better balance of potency and elegance, good and consistent acidity.
Best wishes
